Great thinking! This was an Asus touchscreen – I doubt they’ll have removed the Editor before tomorrow, I’ll go back and try out your suggestion, sounds like a viable workaround (until the boffins add this natively – soon please!!!).
So then all I want for christmas is comprehensive midi parameter control directly in Editor…too much to ask ;)?

But here’s my logic – if (as Stix has shown us in his excellent Youtube video) it’s possible to use a controller connected to the midi interface on the iDR rack to control an iLive surface, those same changes would be reflected in the editor software right? So in effect, I’m not directly controlling Editor, I’m controlling the engine on the mixrack which then controls Editor…midi over Ethernet or even wireless seems practical, so essentially I’d be doing the same as connecting the device locally, if it’s addressed correctly it should do the same thing Stix has managed in Logic right? Or is this all just wishful thinking?
Bummer that there’s no midi control from the busses, maybe in a future update?

Having just gone to my friendly local computer store to test run Editor on a 23″ touchscreen I have to say the ability to resize the controls (in particular the faders and buttons) is at the absolute top of my wish list!!! It was pretty much impossible, so I’m back to looking at just a laptop to do this now :(

Thanks so much for the info Jeff, I think the suspense was playing havoc with more than one contributors nerves! That all sounds fantastic, now we’re just waiting on final specs and the all important price!
This card is the final piece of the puzzle for me as far as coming on board and purchasing the iLive, so I’m waiting with baited breath!

If you’re working in the Editor program (not one of the surfaces) your metering is via the small meter next to the trim/gain pot at the top of the channel as well as within the channel expanded view (“Sel” button) on the Preamp or Superstrip tabs (“real” users correct me if I’m wrong please! I’m just learning this software!).

Cost I would think would be the first benefit over MADI! I’m about to buy an iLive system and a deciding factor for me is the ability to multitrack shows – if I put the MADI card in I’m the up for at least a couple of thousand dollars for an interface (say RME), whereas the Dante system from my understanding won’t even need a professional soundcard, but just a solid gigabit Ethernet connection. Big plus for my budget (I can pour that unspent MADI fund into a better computer!)!

Thanks for that, Sonar was already on my radar (excuse the shocking pun!), I don’t know much about samplitude yet but have seen it mentioned in my travels around the ‘reliable DAW’ threads, I might pm you both for some more details…
I also hear good things about reaper – anyone had experiences there? It’s certainly the most cost efficient, but lots of people are attesting to it’s stability and the autosave is apparently very good (I did read some things about Sonar’s autosave causing it to hang?)…
    All input appreciated!

I’m very much with Wouter on the resizing & multitouch stuff in Editor…it’s the only thing stopping me from jumping on board the iLive bus right now (I have to be able to confidently & quickly work with the interface on either a laptop or multitouch PC screen, it’s a bit of an analogue hangover!)!

I’m teetering on the edge of buying an iDR32 as well, just looking into the recording setup…the Dante card sounds like the best bet, as long as I can get a laptop/PC/DAW combo stable enough to track 32 channels – would love to hear thoughts from anyone doing something similar with the mixracks (via MADI or otherwise).
My current recording medium is a Fostex D2424LV hard disk system which has been almost perfectly stable, but is getting on, weighs much more than the iDR32, and takes an inordinate amount of time to transfer files, so I’m hoping I can find a way to unclutter my life with this rack solution!
PS I’m initially not planning on getting a control surface, but mixing via a laptop/PC (separate to the one that will run the Dante recording setup I’d imagine)
