if you don´t have the Tubestage preamp model plugin, get it now! I´ve used it last week on a bass and it was such a great basssound (No, sound is not subjective! 🙂 ). The room I mixed in is very high, very square with a lot of reflecting surfaces. And I had always problems making the bass heard without creating a lot of low noise rumble.
Secondly I discovered that the compressor plugins like the 16T have sidechainfilter. So i selfkeyed it, used the sidechain HP filter around 100 so that the compressor is triggert not constantly by the low end, but by the stuff I actually want to control.
Those two things made a big difference.
