After trying multiple SSD Drives recommended by A&H, Ive had many issues getting the drive to save the files correctly. Both brand-new drives i’ve used had sufficient space and were formatted and, when we had errors of the files not recording, reformatted. Finally I got it to record correctly until I tried to get them onto a computer. I saw the files, but after disconnecting the drive (properly ejected) the files were erased when trying to use them again. Why would the drive lose the files between uses? I’m still seeing the MH SQ-MT file so clearly it thought it was recording, but no files or the files get lost.

Super frustrating considering it was the multitracking I did for a live stream and I do not think I can get these files back.

Has anyone had these issues? Ive troubleshooted to the point where I do not think it is the SSD themselves.

When trying to copy over the SQ MT folder even though there are no files in it, it says it contains 127GB of information. When I tried I reviewed a

“The Finder can’t complete the operation because some days in “SQ-MT001″ can’t be read or written”
    (error code -36)

So It appears there is something in the file but it is corrupted in some way. I found a workaround where I duplicated the “in progress” folder of the SQ MT folder copy over. When I accessed it I found some of the files completely safe.

In other words I can safely say that files were corrupted and deleted. This is likely happening every time I try to record.

Are you also copying Shows to the Drive?

Were the drives formatted on the SQ? This is required.

Does the SQ see and play the files if you setup the IO to use the SQDrive as input?

How many tracks are you recording in one go?

I am not sure why recording to the SQ-Drive is so fraught with difficulties. It really shouldn’t be this hard, A&H. Can this ever be fixed or is it just an over-complicated, mostly failed application that causes more grief than relief?

FWIW, I have found that external USB drive enclosures THAT ARE POWERED BY AN OUTBOARD DC POWER SUPPLY seem to work for me. Both SSDs and spinning drives that are not bus powered by the SQ seem to work although I would never consider using those files as my only, or even primary recording. I always use those files as backup to those I record via Reaper on a dedicated MBP. Who would have ever thought I would consider anything recorded on a laptop as a primary recording, but there ya go.

Reaper titles all the tracks, is able to accept external linear time-code and so far, has been fail-proof so far (knock wood).

All I can say is that this issue is rife and on-going and I wish that A&H would fix it. Guessing that will never happen as it seems like a hardware issue with the USB in the SQ but at least, someone at A&H should make an official declaration of the extent of this problem, maybe an official work-around (don’t take my word for my solution). and maybe a yes/no on whether there are any plans to fix it. Or we can all just wallow in the mire of the unknown.

    D.
