    Hi guys,

Forgive me, because I must be missing something. The SQ series boasts a spec of 36 busses, but by my count, 36 is not accurate. Can someone help me figure out what I’m missing?

    1 LR Bus
    12 Stereo Mix Busses
    4 FX Busses
    3 Stereo Matrix Busses
    1 PAFL Bus

Looks to me like that adds up to 21 busses. And we can’t really count the stereo mix busses as 2 busses, because when they’re switched to mono it’s still locked in at 12 busses, they don’t split to 24.

I feel like I understood how they got there at one time, but for the life of me I can’t put the pieces together at the moment. Does anyone see what I’m missing?

You could count it like this:

    2 LR Bus
    24 Mix Buses
    4 FX Buses
    6 Matrix Buses

The PAFL Bus does not count as a mix bus.

    Very creative counting…. πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

I’m not sure where you get the 36 busses figure. I don’t see the 36 buss figure being used in the current marketing material on the A&H site, but perhaps it was used previously.

I think the console has more than 36 busses if you count them the way other A&H console systems count their busses. However it really doesn’t matter because the busses aren’t customizable. So while you could argue the console has upwards of 50 or more busses in total, it is still much less flexible than the Avantis with 40 user definable busses (plus 2 PAFL busses = 42 total busses).

    Main L/R Mix = 2 busses
    12 Stereo Groups/Auxes = 24 busses
    3 Stereo Matrixes = 6 busses
    PAFL = 2 busses
    8 stereo FX returns = 16 busses
    4 dedicated FX sends = 4 busses
    Total Buss Count = 54

PS – I don’t use the SQ Series. It may be that the 4 dedicated FX sends are simply preset, but are part of the 12 total auxes/groups available. Even if that is the case, the console still has 50 busses in total if you count them like they do on the Avantis and DLive systems.

Please see for e.g. at the pictures.

A&H obviously calls in the SQ something as a (mix) bus if something can be “mixed” (dosed) on it.
This is not the case with PFL and of course also with FX returns.

Thanks for the pictures. I would have never found that information on my own because I wasn’t looking in the right place.

I have no idea how they are calculating the buss count. According to the docs your provided, the 36 count is when things are in mono, but the best I can do is this:

    12 mono aux/groups = 12 busses
    3 mono MTX = 3 busses
    1 mono LR = 1 buss

    8 Stereo FX returns = 16
    4 mono FX sends = 4 busses

That’s 36 busses, but doesn’t account for PAFL (which are counted as busses in in the Avantis and DLive systems)….. So who knows…..

    12 Stereo Auxes / Groups = 24
    3 Stereo Matrixes = 6
    1 L/R = 2
    4 Mono Sends for FX = 4
    ==================================
    36

That is the official “counting”. (Returns are of course not “busses”).

    Best Regards,
    Tobias
