Has anyone else experienced your mix sounding much louder when using virtual soundcheck?

I just went through and used Trim to get my gain stage to where I normally set it, and even with my Band and Vocal DCA’s at -6 the mix is still louder than it should be.

For reference, multitrack recording with Dante to Reaper with the Eclipse recording theme. I was thinking that Reaper could somehow be at fault, but it’s odd that even with the input meters gained correctly it’s still so much louder!

This has been an ongoing issue my boss and I have both experienced with dLive.

Hoping someone else can provide some insight into this! Thank you!

There is a million reasons as to why this could be the case in any given setup.
I tested the dLive virtual soundcheck in/out levels in Reaper a while back, and had the exact same input level whether I was monitoring the live or VSC signal.
However, there are certainly settings in Reaper that can cause this as well as obviously settings in the console.

Virtual Soundcheck in dLive and Avantis records the signal post analogue preamp (pre Trim) and returns it at the same point in the channel (pre Trim) so any level discrepancy is likely caused by external factors. I would definitely check that the hardware output for each track in Reaper is set at 0dB (unity gain), that you are not also sending the main LR track back to the console (this is default routing in Reaper), and that you don’t have the same Dante channels double patched somewhere else.

I’m pretty sure my boss is just getting in my head🤦‍♂️

All settings are as they should be: post preamp records, and Reaper Eclipse is a stripped back theme specifically for VSC records.

I did a test with a click. Recorded it, played it back and flipped between live and recorded…totally fine.

Probably just that thing of a big, empty room without people.

I may do an SPL test to be certain.

When I start a rehearsal, I set all of my DCA’s to zero and then set a basic mix in the layers after setting gains. The rehearsal seemed fine, and a way more comfortable listening level compared to when I checked VSC on Wednesday and Thursday.
