soft key abilities

Is there a way that I’m missing or needs putting into future software updates to assign soft keys for starting recording and stopping recording on the USBdrive and for assigning tracks to playback from USBstick on a soft key? That would be a really useful function at times rather than having to keep jumping screens!?! Or to allow for the recording/playback screen on the external screen?
