I need to use my Qu to generate a 1kHz sine tone to calibrate some program I/O gain structure in a fixed install. Knowing that the metering on the Qu is 0= -18dbFs, I am assuming that bringing the tone level up to 0db on a mix output, with the mix master fader also at 0, should give me a -18dbFs output tone.
Is this correct?
If it is correct then should I set the input level of the various pieces of equipment receiving the tone to reflect -18db or 0? I’m assuming -18db, but I have a nagging feeling that setting the input gains of each piece of equipment to that reference tone depends on the metering ballistics of each particular piece of gear. It might not be a one-size-fits-all scenario.
