you did remember to unzip the file you downloaded ?And doublecheck that you got the correct firmware file for your console.
2024/08/07 at 6:43 am #124457Ronald PikeParticipantHi Peter,
Downloaded via Macbook? Try via Windows…Some users in this forum had this issue with updating to V1.5.10 and download via Windows gave the solution. Had to do something with the Macbook OS version.

We have had some reports of issues with macOS and zip files.
There’s an article on our knowledgebase here which will hopefully help – https://support.allen-heath.com/hc/en-gb/articles/20728166240657-Allen-Heath-website-download-unpacking-in-MacOSThanks,
Keith.2024/08/07 at 4:17 pm #124484KeithJ A&HModeratorThere is something strange going on when copying files to a FAT32 drive from a mac running a recent OS.
We will continue to look into this, but unfortunately it does look like it’s not currently possible to update by copying over firmware files using macOS Sonoma.
Even just renaming that same file directly on the drive using a Windows machine will allow it to be seen by the SQ, and using an older mac is also completely fine.
We had some suggestions of it being the extra files added to the drive and used by finder/trash on the Mac, but these have been included for a long while now and not caused problems before, deleting them will also not help. Thanks,

thx
maybe a Windows are Beter than the Mac OS 🙂 noooo 🙂 only for this 🙂are there new stuff in the update ? no I think ? only for make things a little bit better
2024/08/08 at 10:38 am #124527KeithJ A&HModeratorOK, so it seems Sonoma may not be following the FAT32 standard for shortening long file names.
Instead of shortening (in this case)
SQ-5UPG_1_5_11r4356.bin
to
SQ-5UP~1.BINIt’s using different numbers, possibly for archiving purposes.
Meaning you might get something like
SQ-5UP~9.BIN
or even
SQ-5U~17.BINAs the SQ is looking for SQ-5UP~1.BIN it will not see the file.
We will look at what we can do at our end, but please bear with us as I’m sure you can understand this is a pretty fundamental/low level change!
For now, using Windows, an older macOS, bootcamp/parallels or even transferring to the drive using a tablet or smartphone will work.UPDATE: A workaround is to manually rename the file to the correct shortname that the mixer is looking for, please find examples in the article here – https://support.allen-heath.com/hc/en-gb/articles/27372432963729-Issues-when-copying-firmware-files-to-a-USB-drive-using-macOS
Thanks,
Keith.2024/08/10 at 1:13 pm #124592aiavParticipantI also ran into this issue today so I tried to download and copy on my Microsoft Surface running Windows 10 pro but I ran into the same issue. Renaming it manually resolved the issue.
2024/08/10 at 4:54 pm #124594SQuserParticipantI don’t quite understand why A&H doesn’t just pack a BIN file with the correct name required by SQ into the firmware zip file.
2024/08/10 at 5:12 pm #124596Søren SteinmetzParticipantThey do pack a .bim file with the correct name.
The problem is Winblows and Crapple have both decided they need to add some “meta data” to the files and apparantly decided to change how they interpred long filenames.
And before people suggest A&H to simply host the .bin file unzipped on the website, that would result in a lot of systems refusing to download the file due to it being an executable and thus “could” be a virus or trojan.
2024/08/10 at 5:40 pm #124597SQuserParticipantAnyway.
In any case, it seems to work if I rename my file to SQ-6UP~1.bin beforehand and the operating systems no longer have to worry about what to do with names that are too long – not even Crapple. 😀2024/08/11 at 4:00 pm #124617tourtelotParticipantGood work-around. Gotta say, that’s why this forum is SO important. Good community involvement and help from the Mothership. Wonderful collaboration!
