    I have no problem with XLR inputs, use a proper DI when needed.

    I would not recommend using a hardwired XLR to TRS or TS cable for an
    input.

    You can accidentally send phantom power back into the connected equipment, some may
    take it others will not like it so much!

    A DI will give you isolation from grounding issues.

    Give proper balanced line for longer cable runs.

    If connected to passive output instrument can provide proper loading
    on the instrument output.
