We run 3 different mix racks for FOH, Monitor, and Broadcast respectively. When the new gain sharing feature was added we gave the broadcast DM0 gain sharing with the FOH DM64 and it worked as expected. Now things have changed as they always do and the monitors DM0 needs gain sharing. We disabled it on the broadcast DM0 (and the GigACE card connecting it to the FOH DM64) but when we enable it on the monitors DM0 (and its separate GigACE link to DM64) it doesn’t work. No gain control ever appears even after multiple restarts. All mix racks and surfaces are on the same firmware.

You say the monitor DM0 has its own separate gigaACE link to the DM64, can you confirm this is a separate gigaACE card (as opposed to Link B on the same card)?
If you are running redundant cables, have you updated the systems to V1.91 or above?

When they were first set up the DM0s were sharing one gigace card but now Broadcast DM0 has a redundant gigace connection via mixrack IO port 3. Monitors has a redundant gigace connection via mixrack IO port 1. All mixracks are on V1.91

Does the problem persist if you recall a Template Show file on both systems?
Either way, I’d suggest starting a support ticket at https://support.allen-heath.com/ with the info above, so that our team can advise from there and follow up.

It didn’t work on fresh templates, but I discovered it’s because the monitor DM0 receives the audio by ip direct outs which aren’t tied to a specific analog socket so no gain sharing.

What’s the recommended method for digital splits like this? ip direct out isn’t desirable because it’s post trim which means there’s no way to adjust input level at FOH without changing the level for the person on the split with ip direct outs.

The recommended method for digital splits is using Tie Lines, and indeed, Gain Sharing only works when using Tie Lines.
Tie Lines take the signal straight off the preamp and converter (pre trim). When Gain Sharing is On, preamp information (Gain, PAD, 48V) is also transmitted via Tie Lines over gigaACE/fibreACE so the other system can see and control the preamp.
