Hi – new to the forum but a very long time A&H user/owner. I just purchased a SQ5. Previously I was using a Qu-16 for FOH and splitting out to a Qu-SB for monitor duty. I am now going to switch to the SQ for FOH

I watched the video for SQ to Qu linking via SLink (Slink on SQ to Dsnake on the Qu). I am using the local inputs on the SQ as the primary input source then feeding to the Qu via Slink.

It seemed to work but when using at the first gig live, I noticed the input gains on the Qu were really low. To the point I couldn’t get good monitor mixes. I switched back to physically splitting the inputs annd removed the Slink and the gains were fine on the Qu – so I used that for the gig.

Am I doing something wrong or is it normal for the Slink-ing to Dsnake to drop the input gains that much? Much appreciate any insight that can be provided.

The digital connection should not affect the gain levels at all. It is more likely that the gain settings on the SQ are simply too low for monitor use on the QU. You many need to rethink how you structure gain on the SQ.

There should also be a digital trim control on the attached console (QU in this case). You won’t have full preamp control from the QU, but the digital gain will allow you to increase/decrease gain of a shared input without affecting the other console. Make sure these are set appropriately as well.
