I noticed the De-esser fx the list of fx on our sq6.

Is this a free working fx like the reverb and such…or is it locked with an additional purchased key?

As well, for vocal speech is this Fx a “must have” for any speech (sermon, etc) type use? Or where does this fx shine?

    Thanks for the advice,

Check out the Mix Wizard’s Sessions, episode 6 on YouTube – he calls it the “Free De-Esser” in the SQ.

It’s working quite well for me. I put it on the channel, and then send that to a vocal group to do more standard compression.

    Cheers!

I did change the release time, and had to adjust the threshold.

The de-esser that is listed is an “add on” that you pay for, but “Mix Wizard” uses the standard compressor to act as a de-esser.

    Cheers!

Oh, and I had to adjust the side chain’s high pass filter to 5k.

    Hi Dave.

    Great advice! Thank you 🙂

Is a de-esser used more with song vocals or speech?

    Thanks!
