Just got my CQ-12T yesterday and having trouble understanding the two-way USB-B communication from the mixer to Abelton. I have (2) connected XLR mics in inputs 7 & 8 and I have a 1/4 TRS coming out of input 6 for a guitar. On the mixer I have the USB/SD option enabled, with source point as Post Preamp, Sample Rate 96 (Same in Abelton) Stream Mode Multitrack. On the inputs tab of the mixer I have the inputs for 6,7,8 set to USB as the input source. The output tab, the XLR mains run to my studio monitors.

In Abelton, I have 3 audio tracks mapped to the same input channels as the mixer. The audio source in Abelton is set to CQ-12t for the input and output.

What I was expecting to have happen is that I would be able to hear the input signal from each of the channels, record and hear the playback through my studio monitors. The issue is, that I can only hear the input source through the monitors “if” I change the source back to Analogue. Another issue is that I’m not able to apply a guitar FX plugin to the guitar channel (6) in Abelton either.

What am I missing here? Newbie here, so any help is appreciated.

If I’m understanding your question correctly, you will want your inputs set to analogue on your mixer for your microphones and guitar. In your DAW, you should be able to configure your output channel to 15/16 stereo out which I believe is the main mix out (XLR output to your studio monitors) on the CQ-12T.

If you wanted a dedicated output channel, that is when you would assign a stereo pair linked channels to USB as the input source and route your output in your DAW to those channels.

I typically will run all my inputs into the mixer and not monitor through the mixer itself, but monitor the output mix from my DAW. That way, I can select which tracks I want to monitor live in my DAW.
