I’m looking to add 8 channels to my system and the only device I’m seeing, save the AR series, which I can’t use, is the DX-88, but I’m not seeing too much mention of Avantis/GX plus DX-88.

I thought I read somewhere that you can ‘daisy chain’ off a GX4816’s DX1 to a DX-88P, but it disabled ME (DX2) functionality? Any insight on this? I need ME functionality.

Ultimately, I’m looking to only add 8 channels and I really don’t care how it happens and it would be easy to just tack on the 88 if possible.

Thanks for any experience/ideas in this regard!

The DX88p is a relatively new device which is why there isn’t a whole lot out there about them.

The GX4816 has two expansion ports available. The first is strictly for DX devices. It can support one DX32 or up to two other DX boxes daisy chained together (first DX box connected to DX1 port and the second DX box is connected to the first DX device). The second port can be used as another DX port (with exactly the same capacity as the first DX port) OR it can be used as an ME port by connecting a ME device to it.

Long story short, there is no problem connecting both DX and ME devices to the GX4816. You are just going to be limited to one DX32 or two other DX devices.

You can download the A&H DX/GX System Guide from the A&H website which has all the information about how these systems work together (although it has not been updated to reflect the new DX88p devices). https://www.allen-heath.com/hardware/everything-i-o/gx4816/resources/
