I’ve seen some posts that suggested to use ALT OUTs to add additional monitoring buses. Also I’ve seen an explanation that it’s not possible cause all internal cores are reserved already.
So my idea is to add an option to add additional two monitoring buses using two cores that serve FX. That way we will have 8 aux outputs (6 + 2 ALT OUTs) and 2 FX buses. Hope that makes sense. Is that even possible hardware wised?
PS. In some cases I can live with fewer effects but really need more monitor buses.

Allow me to use this analogy:
What you want would certainly be like adding extra cylinders to a small car’s engine to give it four-wheel drive.
I would think both are impossible.2024/08/23 at 9:26 am #124967josephParticipantMixers from other manufactures do that trick so I thought it could be possible. But let’s wait for Keith’s answer.
2024/08/23 at 1:48 pm #124974KeithJ A&HModeratorHi all,
I was going to post to say that this absolutely wouldn’t be possible, because it’s not possible to add more mixes.
However, I think what’s being suggested here is that the existing FX mixes are re-used as monitor/output mixes, because they already have the routing and summing in place. That’s partially true, though the routing for FX is different to that for outputs and only internal (currently). So it would still require changes/extra in the core, meaning we wouldn’t be able to say whether or not it’s possible until the work has been done and fully tested.
We wouldn’t do that work unless it was one of the most requested features, hence I didn’t post.A few things to note though
– We already offer mixers with more outputs and monitor mixes. The CQ was designed and built with 6 outputs (aside from the main LR). If you need more outputs, then you’ve got the wrong mixer (sorry to say!).
– If it were possible, it would definitely not work like existing outputs. You wouldn’t get mix processing, or extra sends in the sends screens for example. This feels like a bit of a ‘bodge’ and we try to avoid doing things that we can’t do properly.
– There’s a lot of knock-on (and therefore testing) with any changes to the core or changes to shows/scenes/apps/gui.Thanks,
Keith.2024/08/23 at 5:11 pm #124980josephParticipantThank you very much for the detailed answer! CQ is great as it is, especially considering its price.
I agree that feature has some trade-offs and isn’t the easiest to implement. However, it’s good to hear that it probably could be done if the community really needs it.

Odd that you came away from Keith’s post with those thoughts. When I read between the lines, I see Keith saying that this request is never going to happen on the CQ series. Not only would it take a lot of work on A&H end, it would be a “kludgy” result that wouldn’t work like other outputs. His advice is to buy a different system if you need more outputs.

Maybe merging these ideas (extra FX mix) with additional monitor eq could lead to a dedicate optional mix as phone source??
