Hello, I’m wondering if anyone has had success with using a vst reverb plugin through the built in interface.
I am a solo vocal/multi instrumentalist, and while I don’t hate the built in fx, I would like to add a top class reverb plugin just to use for a select few tracks.
I’m pretty certain this can be done but if not please correct me. I already use the built in interface for playback of tracks (29/30) and background playback (31/32) but I would like to send my vocal mic to a daw, through the reverb, then routed back to a channel that I can then add to my mute group along with my other fx section. My only concern would be latency but as its a reverb I assume it wouldn’t be detrimental. The dry vocal would still route as normal to the main out and monitors etc.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

This can work with caveats. Latency is one of them, yes, but is essentially going to add pre-delay to your reverb, so you can partially/wholly offset it by reducing this setting. As you say though, it’s a time-based effect anyway so shouldn’t be detrimental.
Just ran a test with ProTools:
Set Playback engine to Qu-SB and define which inputs and outputs/format etc. for this (e.g. mono send and stereo return). I did a stereo send for panning within the reverb effect following channel pan.
Send audio out of a Mix (9-10 in my case).
In IO Patch menu assign those mix outputs to the correct USB destinations.
Set Pro Tools track to Input Monitor and route in, add the inserted plugin etc.
Route the output from that Track to the specific USB channel destination to that it hits e.g. Channels 31 and 32 on the Qu, then set the source for those channels to USB.

The last couple of steps define where signals will come back in of course. There is no custom patching/routing of USB sources to different channels on the way back in, so this has to be done in the DAW. I also do not see a way to access the ST1, ST2 or ST3 channels as they are outside of the 32×32 interface.
You can use two mono channels and pan them hard LR and link them. If you accidentally send those channels back to the Reverb mix bus you’ll get some interesting effects…!

This workflow also means you cannot use Qu-Drive as a source for any channel, as it switches to USB [streaming] globally. However, if you’re already using your DAW for playback, this must be how it is already.

Overall, definitely possible. It’s a bit more involved than just grabbing some outboard and physically connecting it between a mix output and a stereo input though.
    All the best
