    Moparcar posted 4/5/13:

“had another system crash last night post show. We’re on our second GLD after problems with the first”

The surest way to windup with nothing is to wait for everything. On the other hand, the 2nd mouse always gets the cheese.

I’ve had two crashes a few weeks ago before the update v1.12, i was still on v1.10. The first crash happend during the show and i had to reboot the GLD between songs. The second crash happend in the break, i had locked the surface and when i came back it had crashed.

After the update to v1.12 i tested the GLD at home for a whole week, 6 hours a day, with a multitrack recording from my laptop back to the GLD via Dante. Not a glitch so i thought i was good to go.

Last weekend it crashed again just a few minutes before the show. I powered down the GLD, removed the USB-stick (SanDisk Cruzer Contour 16GB) from the lower port and powered up again. The rest of the gig went well.

Today i tested the GLD at home with nothing else connected, no AR2412, no AR84, no laptop, no iPad, just the USB-stick and played back music from it for a few hours. I just waited… IT CRASHED. Luckily i made a movie with my iPhone and copied the Log to USB. Then i rebooted and this time without the USB-stick. IT CRASHED after a few hours.

This is a part of the Log, it goes on and on repeating the same errors.

Please help, is there something i can do, does it mean i have a hardware defect?

Other crashes have been explained as happening because the RAM was filled up with log error files. What you are seeing would certainly suggest this type of failure.

Everything you posted happened within one second. How long does this go on for?

I extracted the Log-file and the first message is at 20:38:12 and the last is at 20:38:35. But i think it started earlier because the normal messages from “system started” are not in the Log. I think the Log can only hold a maximum amount of lines.

I did not wait for the messages to end because at this point the desk didn’t respond and i cut off the power after i copied the Log to USB. If it happens again i’ll let it run and see if it stops.

Seems like, although it’s rare, it’s still an issue.

More than 125 hours of use with various of the software versions since any crash (on v1.02) ar 2412, ar 84 / various usb sticks. No dante card.

The surest way to windup with nothing is to wait for everything. On the other hand, the 2nd mouse always gets the cheese.

I submitted a ticket at Allen&Heath Support and this was the answer:

” After reviewing the video and log files it is apparent that, unfortunately, there is a hardware problem with your GLD80 and it will need to be serviced to restore functionality. “

The DSP-Board has been replaced and i recieved the desk back today.
Right now i’m testing again, fingers crossed…

Next gig is sunday, i’ll keep you informed.

    Oscar
