    Hey guys,

What cables are y’all using from desk to your AR’s.
THe A&H one is considerably more expensive than other options but is also pimped purple…like the racks are?

What about this bunch : https://www.directcablesystems.com/site/product_details.php?section_id=8&sub_section_id=550&category_id=89

Anyone use their cable? I think 100m is about £230 or so
I need to get another cable for sure, but really after getting all that I bought this week have no more money left – have to still buy my flight case too LOL!

    Cheers Boys!

    Hey Jonny,

If you don’t need the cable reel, I highly recommend this stuff:

    https://www.rapcohorizon.com/p-92-duracat-cable.aspx

Very affordable and been using it for about 7 months now with zero problems.

    Sweet – looks good chum!

I will try and source some pricing options here in the UK for sure.

I also saw last night some VanDamme Cat5 TourCat Flexible which was quite inexpensive but was left wondering what the shielding would be like on it.

Intersted to hear about all the options we have indeed.

    Thanks.

We have just done a GLD installation using fairly standard CAT6 shielded. I think it cost about GBP20 for 30m. Works a treat but then it is not moving on a weekly basis so YMMV.

Just a thought that you don’t necessarily need to get the expensive stuff…

    Interesting stuff GK, thanks man!

That’s been a thought too – cause for example – lord forbid that anything would happen to our LS932 in church…. we do have installed cat5 running to the front, so it would be a chance for my GLD to be stepped in place if anything ever happened.

    Keep it all coming boys!

I just noticed what our german brothers were offering in their kit deal @ https://www.thomann.de/gb/allenheath_gld_80_bundle.htm

They have a wee cable at https://www.thomann.de/gb/the_sssnake_cat_75.htm

Probably not the best quality of callee I am sure, and definitely not likely to be anywhere near as old as the klutz stuff – but it might also be worth trying s a premise budget solution. Goodness – some of the cat5 cable kits I have seen are over a grand LOL.

For me – that amount of money is beyond my grasp for a while so will have to settle for the less expensive options for a while.

Thanks guys, keep all suggestions flowing!

I’m unsure if A&H says anywhere that the cables need to be to shielded, or is it just a recommendation?
I ask this cause I recall seeing somewhere that Aviom requires unshielded Cat5e, so I just want to make sure I purchase the right stuff the first time.

    Thanks!

    A&H recommends shielded:

In Benelux I found a real good price for the Etherline P flex 2170300 (which is in recommended list).

I bought 100 meter for 213,14 Euro. incl. VAT and shipping. I am using a Schill wheel GT310-RM. Works great and is very compact.

The website can be found here:

We got a 75ft CAT6a shielded cable from Monoprice.com, cut off the boots, and attached Neutrik ethercon connectors for a total of under $30USD. Very high quality cable and good value.

i have that same Thoman ssnake cable.
runs fine for the money [:)]
i do get some qos errors from time to time, but no hearable audio errors..
cable is blue, so is also an attentiontracker between the rest.
( oh, is blue, must be special.. same as orange/yellow for glasfiber..)

VDC’s solid cored & shielded Etherflex is pretty good but the additional strengthening plastic centre core does occasionally throw problems with termination as well as the extra expense of the shielded cat5 plugs.

We use the Kelsey Duracat as well which is much much cheaper (about £1 metre IIRC) and seems to have performed pretty well considering its much less well built and has a thinner OD. Good value though.

Either way stuck on a nice Schill (Neutrik) drum it makes for an easy life.

I do know a GLD owner that seems quite happy to carry his box of cheap unshielded Cat5 around and stick new plugs on every other show. Cheap but not recommended….

+1 for Duracat. Ran 250 feet and 150 feet (different locations for AR’s) with no problems. Not one comm error over an 8+ hour gig.
