    Hi Guys,

So my basic iLive T setup is now complete, except for the part where I want to record MultiTrack from the MixRack.
I own the iDR48 and the iDR16, all connected with ACE (which should have a recording option…).
So this is my plan, please let me know if this will work.
1st – Buy a xDR16, both to boost inputs and outputs and also to
2nd – connect a M-DANTE card on the Port B so I can use that and
3rd – plug in a PC to record Multitrack through DANTE software

All the time using the ACE connections for Live sound FOH and MON…

Is this possible? Is it the best (read affordable) solution?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and opinions,

    Rui

Yeah.that will work fine – If you need the XDR then that is probably your best option. If you don’t need the XDR straight away then you could link the IDR48 and IDR16 with two MDante cards instead of via ACE (FOH/MON). That way you can also record or split to other Dante devices through a Gigabit switch. You would also have the ability to record from each of the mixracks directly if they are used standalone.

    Thanks,

Actualy, because I have an iDR16, the extra inputs on the xDR will come in handy by themselves.
And I already have the extra ACE cards installed!
Can anyone recomend me a good software for multitrack recording using the Dante link?

    Thanks.

I’m using Cubase and the MADI interface, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t also work with Virtual Sound Card for Dante.

I have used Cubase for some time in the studio it would work with the Dante. There are lots of Programs that will work the DVSC.

There are several on the forum that uses Reaper as well. If your unfamiliar with it….

    https://www.reaper.fm/

Its very inexpensive and great for on the move and recording.

I am with you and would love to see an Allen And Heath ACE interface or Virtual sound card of sorts. That would be a great addition and selling point.

    Thanks for the tip.
Which one would be more easily acceptable in a live sound recording atmosphere?
Recording a band or Artists performance for future editing on cd or on a video production, for example.

As for the ACE option, at the very least it would simplify things.

first: i am on dante and record with samplitude – works fine – reaper as well
second: before you buy dante (i love dante) i would check compability on “your market”.

i had a english guy here (switzerland) wich went for the madi solution as many of his customers are using madi.
so he made his decicion based on that – as well because he is a dedicated monitor specialist (touring with bands)
it made his life easier to connect with other digital consoles (in his case with f.o.h.)

now if you are a “small company” as we are dante is a very good solution.

a ace solution – cool but to late (marketingwise)- that brings back my thoughts (bout two years ago) where the swiss importer rep (tommy willi) and i came to the conclusion – ilive should have never left the linux realm – better would have been supplying a linux distro with editor build in – and ardour for recording, wich would have been commercial suicide but technically much more professional and INDEPENDENT of two to big companys wich want to own the world – call me a fool if you like

    cheers

I use Dante into reaper also, but will say look into the waves card. It allows recording and using their plug-ins also. I think Dante will be capable of that once the PCIe card is out. But the waves card should work now. Not sure if the sound grid server would be required just for recording. And Dante may be better for you. Just don’t overlook that option.

    Hi,

Thanks everyone for your input. It was most helpfull and I now have more data to make a decision.

There was, however, one coment made that alerted me to an issue I never even considered.

    Connectivity with other systems!

I was under the (apparently wrong) impression that iLive didn’t “play well with others”. A few months back, before I had the 2 systems, I used an analog stage rack to split FOH and MON, FOH was my T112 and MON was an M7CL. I now think that there migth be a digital solution for this, eventually connecting my iLive system to another brand system using a 3rd party card on both mixers.

Am I correct in this assumption?

Which solution would be better for both this situation and Multitrack recording, considering my colleagues here in Portugal have a lot of Yamaha and Digico systems?

Also, a bit off topic here, can I connect the new GLD surface to the iLive system using an ACE Card?

    Hey, I think that’s all, for now…

    Thanks for your input

    Hi Rui

Connectivity with other consoles is as easy as any other consoles will allow. As long as you have the proper protocol in both consoles, and the set up is done properly, i dont see it as a problem.
Connection to an M7CL can be done with Dante, if you have that card (or cards) in the M7. Same for RockNet, MADI, Ethersound and etc.
Unfortunately the M7 consoles will be the ones offering you limitations on connectivity. Not the other way around. The M7CL-ES are the ones that would offer you some flexibility. But, you dont see those as much.

GLD has an expansion slot that fits any of the iLiveT series card in it. So in your case, you can install an Ace card and use it for either a Monitor or broadcast or whatever split.

BTW, i’ve been using Presonus Studio One and it is working pretty darn well. Very easy to get around.

    Thank Gil,

One other thing I came across today is JoeCo BlackBox Recorder, that now has a BBR-Dante version, suposedly you can connect the iLive system with a Dante card on to the BlackBox Recorder and record multitrack on the hard drive.

Has anyone looked into that yet?

    Thanks again.

PS: Gil Parente is a very “Portuguese” name. Any relation??? Just wondering…

    Hi Rui
JoeCo boxes are pretty cool. Works pretty well. I’ve messed with a few. But unecessary, if you have a decent laptop with an external drive.
I use my macbook pro with an external SSD and can record the 64 tracks even using FW800. I usually connect via eSata, sinse i have one of the older models.

I’m originaly from Brazil. Actual name is Guilherme, but Gil is a lot easier for the gringos!!! :-)
