hey guys,

round 5 months ago i brought my first ever mixer, its an Allen & Heath Zed R16.

i’ve been able to record with it fine and have done several recordings of friends on guitar, vocals and drums to try and pick up how everything works. i assume that my monitors are plugged into the right sockets as the live sound is coming out of them perfectly and can monitor the volume with the main L and R (monitors are in 2 track 2 out).

the playback function has never worked and i’m really getting frustrated because now i’m starting to need to use it.

i then worked out that i need to send the recording back into the mixer so it then can go out through my speakers. so today i brought an RCA cable that goes to a headphone jack to go into my headphone port on my imac. i have then got my RCA ends plugged into the 2 track 2 in on the mixer.

my computers sound is working well through my headphones (itunes etc.) when i have the 2 track 2 button on, but it still won’t come through my monitors. also when i tried to playback a recording (because my computers sound was coming through), it was still doing the same thing, playing but muted.

do i have everything plugged into the right places on my mixer, and how can i get the monitors to recognise the computers sound and how do i get my DAW’s playback to work?
