Okay thanks, I will try a few different things mentioned above , it is going to be a problem for me if it is indeed vibration when I use it in front of a fairly chunky system where isolation is impossible. The usb drive option sounds like the way forward for me . I thought it was important to have the external power supply for the hd , and that usb sticks are unsuitable for multitrack recording otherwise I would have tried this first.
