The fact that the ACE QOS error is appearing would suggest that you either have a problem with your cable or that you have some interference near the cable that yould be causing a problem.
It is possible that power cables run along the same path at the Cat5 can cause problems.

You can buy continuity Cat5 testers which may help to diagnose a cable fault though most of them do not support Ethercon.
