Bear in mind that changing stereo configuration is a much more intensive task than adding or removing channels to a gang. There is a lot of reconfiguration as a result of a stereo change, and is thus not suitable to do live. Changing how input channels are stereoed to allow non contiguous pairs seems unlikely.
